Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Our bodies change naturally as we age, and these differences may include new wrinkles on our faces or cheekbones that are not as high as they used to be. So, Dermal fillers made from Hyaluronic acid and Hydroxyapatite can help minimize these signs of ageing if you don’t like them. These materials are, in fact, injectable drugs that are injected directly into areas of the face. The purpose of dermal fillers is to add volume to the lips, oral commissures, cheeks, and even the areas around the nose or near the cheekbones. The injection also helps to remove the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the skin. Originally, dermal fillers used to be offered in a doctor’s office but dentists have also started offering them for smile transformation.

The benefits of dermal fillers

Dermal fillers can be used for many purposes including smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, contouring your face, giving your lips a fuller look, revitalizing skin, and transforming smile. The following are the benefits of having dermal fillers.

  • Fetch quick results without any downtime
  • Long-lasting results
  • Amazing effects on skin
  • Subtle results of your choice
  • Boost your confidence
  • Improve the appearance of scars
  • Give plumper skin and make you look younger
  • Make your lips beautiful
  • Boost your collagen
  • No surgery is required

What is in dermal fillers?

Facial fillers are synthetic or naturally occurring substances that are injected into the lines, folds, and tissues of the face to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and restore the fullness of the face that decreases with age. Before going for these injections, you should know that they consist of the following chemicals.

  1. Hyaluronic Acid: One of the most popular active ingredients in dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid, and the vast majority of dermal treatments use fillers based on this component. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in our body, produced by skin cells, but this production slows down with age. Since hyaluronic acid is natural to our bodies, it is highly unlikely that anyone will be allergic to it, making it one of the safest fillers out there. In addition, the unique ability of hyaluronic acid lies in its ability to maintain high levels of moisture. Thanks to this, when injected under the skin, it fills in the areas that have lost volume, moisturizes the skin, and makes our facial features more visible again.
  2. Calcium hydroxylapatite: Calcium hydroxylapatite is a common alternative to hyaluronic acid. It works similarly to it, and its effects are immediate, but it doesn’t just sit and wait for the body to break it. Calcium hydroxylapatite continues to increase the production of natural collagen in our body, further prolonging the effect of the treatment. It can even have irreversible effects on our skin. Although the filler lasts between twelve and eighteen months, due to the increased collagen production, some of the effects will stay with you even longer. Calcium hydroxylapatite is also completely biodegradable and naturally reabsorbed by our bodies over time.
  3. Poly-l-lactic acid: This chemical works in a very unique way. Unlike hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-1-lactic acid doesn’t give immediate results, but that doesn’t mean it’s worse than the other two. On the contrary, as a result, poly-l-lactic acid gives longer-lasting results than its competitors.
  4. Polymethylmethacrylate: It is considered a semi-permanent filler and is most commonly used to treat moderate to deep wrinkles, folds, and furrows, in particular nasolabial folds (smile lines). It is synthetic, biocompatible, rigid, transparent, and thermoplastic. Used in contact lenses. As a dermal filler, Polymethylmethacrylate takes the form of microspheres or tiny balls and remains indefinitely under the skin to provide continuous support to the face.

What to expect before and during dermal fillers?

When you have booked an appointment with your dentist for dermal fillers then the following you should adhere to before and during the treatment.

  1. Your dentist or doctor will carefully examine your facial appearance, discuss your medical history with you, and recommend the right treatment.
  2. A week before the treatment you should avoid taking over the counter medications such as aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, and Aleve
  3. Avoid using supplements
  4. Two days before the dermal fillers treatment, don’t take any anti-ageing product
  5. Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing or using hair removal cream on the area to be treated
  6. Avoid using Alcohol 24 hour before the treatment
  7. On the treatment day, arrive at the clinic with a cleaned face, and without makeup
  8. The points on your face can be marked as suitable filler injection sites. Your dentist may also take pictures of soon to be treated areas
  9. The injection sites will be cleaned with an antibacterial agent. He may also apply anaesthetic ointment to numb the area
  10. After that, the dentist will inject, massage, and evaluate the area being treated. The whole process will take 15-60 minutes.

What to expect after dermal fillers?

When the dermal filler injections have been done, the dentist will clean the leftover marking. Further, you may expect the following.

  1. In the first hour after injections, apply the ice pack
  2. If you are feeling pain then take painkillers
  3. Avoid itching, massaging, or picking around the injection site
  4. Avoid intense heat in the treated areas
  5. Don’t take alcohol or partaking in strenuous exercise, as it may result in additional bruising
  6. Visit the dentist regularly

How much do dermal fillers cost?

The cost of dermal fillers varies from patient to patient and depends on their needs and goals. Usually, the dermal fillers cost ranges between £800 to £1200. If you can get a younger and wrinkle-free facial appearance after spending this amount, then it is not an expensive deal.

If you are losing your plumped skin, or want to transform your smile without any surgical process, then book an appointment with your dentist for dermal fillers.
